British racing driver Lewis Hamilton has successfully expanded his career from the racetrack into the entertainment industry, securing several notable film and voice roles. His most famous early voice role came in Pixar's 2011 animated feature Cars 2, which had its US theatrical release on June 24, 2011. In the film, Hamilton voiced a character named after himself, representing Great Britain in the prestigious World Grand Prix. The visual design of this animated character was directly inspired by a McLaren MP4-12C supercar. Hamilton later returned to the Pixar franchise for the 2017 sequel Cars 3, where he voiced "Hamilton," a voice command assistant and artificial intelligence system utilized by the character Cruz Ramirez.
In addition to his voice work for Pixar, Hamilton has made appearances in live-action comedy and video games. Hamilton's involvement in cinema reached a new peak with the 2025 sports drama film F1, which had its US theatrical release on June 27, 2025. Hamilton served as a producer on the project and also made a cameo appearance playing himself. The film achieved major commercial and critical success, grossing over $634 million worldwide and winning the award for Best Sound at the 98th Academy Awards. However, his racing career has occasionally conflicted with film opportunities. For instance, Tom Cruise offered Hamilton a role as a fighter pilot in the 2022 film Top Gun: Maverick, but Hamilton was forced to decline the opportunity due to his demanding Formula One racing commitments.
